3 Simple Food Rules That Transformed Our Health

These are rules that I developed when my children were little due to ongoing and seemingly unresolvable health concerns. In a short period of time everyone’s health improved.

Food Rules

  1. Does it contain 5 Ingredients or Less?
  2. Are all ingredients easily pronounceable?
  3. Are the ingredients naturally made?

Can you answer Yes to all of the questions then enjoy it. If there is a no, is it something that you really want to consume?

Why these rules?

  • They are easy for children to remember.
  • They are easy to help children understand.
  • They are easy for parents of young children who are trying to get in and out of the store to remember and apply.
  • Children become excited to help parents at the store because they are participating and contributing to the family experience.
  • They simply work.

Why I choose organic but, not always.

When my daughter was a baby she could eat some foods and be fine. Others, she would break out. Sometimes she could eat regular food and be fine. Other times she could eat the organic food and have a reaction. I eventually discovered that this had to do with the chemicals that were sprayed on food and the additives used in processed food.

Yes, they do spray organic food with chemicals however, most people do not react to them as much or at all.

Also, reading labels is critical. One time I found syrup by a leading company. They advertised it as “Natural.” As I read the label I discovered that the “Natural” part was in the middle of the ingredients list and was only 4% of what was in the bottle.

Additionally, I buy sour cream that is not labeled organic. But, it only has two ingredients. Most of the organic sour cream products on the market have a long list of ingredients.

Learning to read labels is critical to your health.

Why is “5 Ingredients or less” important?

The goal is to eat food that is as close as possible to the way God created it. After all, how many ingredients are in a carrot or an apple? However, things like yogurt are healthy for you. Most people do not make their own yogurt and so are subject to what the company has put in it.

Why is “Are They Easily Pronounced” important?

Vitamin B vs. Riboflavin. Which sounds better for your body? Which sounds more appealing to eat? I have been told that Riboflavin is the same as Vitamin B. I found out that Vitamin C is naturally occurring and Ascorbic Acid is the lab version.

At two years old my daughter had 18 things she reacted to. Once I stopped feeding her anything with ascorbic acid her food sensitivities substantially decreased. Over time we were able to improve her health and eliminate her reactions. Now she is a healthy young adult who can eat whatever she wants to.

Why is “Are the Ingredients Naturally Made” important?

This is back to eating as close to what God created as is possible in our modern lives. The fewer preservatives and chemicals we put into our bodies the increased opportunities for our bodies to work properly. The result is that we have a more enjoyable life experience. Man has yet to perfectly recreate what God created.

A little history:

I could take not feeling well all the time. It was what I knew throughout my life. It was “just me.” In my 20’s I found out it was the food I had been eating my whole life. Then my daughter arrived. She was born with head to toe eczema. Something was wrong and it was up to me as her mother to do my best to figure it out. Medical professionals were not providing answers.

I started asking questions and doing my best to sort through the mountains of information. Finally, in a state of frustration, I asked what did Eve

do? This perspective change made all the difference. Suddenly resources and people showed up in my life who could truly help.

I realize that we live a totally different lifestyle than Eve did. However, some things are the same. We live on the same planet. We both have

children to raise into healthy and happy adults. We both have Divine guidance as to how to raise our children. We both have “mother’s intuition.”

When my daughter was six we moved. I was introduced to someone who does Live Blood Analysis. Instead of me guessing, I now

had someone who could look at her blood and tell me what was going on or what should be happening but was not.

My children and I used this form of health care. We started taking supplements made of healthy ingredients and designed to increase our nutrition level, strengthen our immune systems and wipe out pathogens. I also started using organic food.

Within a few months we saw a huge difference. So much so that my husband who was extremely skeptical could not ignore what was happening and he chose to start getting his blood analyzed and take supplements.

Here we are over 20 years later. There have been times when for various reasons we were not able to choose what we ate. However, our bodies have been strengthened to the point that we have stayed healthy when our diet was lacking, we are no longer required to take supplements all the time, we rarely become ill and if we do then it is short lived.

Doing our best to eat food that is itself healthy, on a consistent basis has truly been a life saver.

So many people have said to me that eating organic is so expensive. My usual response was how much time, money and energy do you spend with time off of work, children missing school, waiting your turn to be seen, co-pays for the doctor and the pharmacy? Yes, in the beginning it was slightly more expensive because we were repairing and strengthening our bodies. Within a few months we were actually eating less because we were eating more nutrient dense food. In the end it has saved us a lot of money, time and space.
